| DETAILS | NGC 1512 is a barred spiral with arms/matter extending in all directions as far out as NGC5010. It is also classed as 'Lenticular', while NGC1510 is a spiral. Both galaxies appear to be interacting. A supernova was recorded here in 2010. Lenticular galaxies are disk galaxies (like spiral galaxies) which have used up or lost most of their interstellar matter and have very little new star formation. Conversely one would expect NGC1512 to engender a number of supernovae. |
